Midhurst Bowling Club is fortunate to have a growing membership and with it a new generation of competitive and promising bowlers. This is very apparent when reviewing the results of this years Club Championship finals.
Our finals weekend this year was a huge success and the September sunshine prevailed, basking the players and spectators alike and helping to create a perfect atmosphere for playing and spectating.
A good mix of experienced campaigners and newbies progressed to the finals again this year. Dave King and Anne Chuter both making four finals whilst a relative newcomer, Mike Holden, also made four finals. Quite a feat.
Dave won three out of the four, Mike and Annie both won two.
The ladies matches created a buzz with the pairs and singles producing very exciting and close matches. Nicki Kidd and Solveig Burton, both relative newcomers had a great win over Anne Chuter, our new ladies champion, and Judi Lion, yet another promising newbie. The ladies singles final between Anne Chuter and Carol Harkness, both experienced club bowlers, was the climax of the weekend with Annie just snatching the victory with a two shot end win, when, the score board displayed nineteen all. Such a great game to watch with some excellent bowls from both players.
Our new Gentlemans singles champion this year is Dave King who defeated Ady Gunter, another exciting new bowler with a successful season under his belt.
Other names to mention are Bruce and Marion Kirby, Marion successful in winning the mixed final with Dave King as partner, Bruce, also partnering Dave King in the Mens Pairs, sadly losing out to Paul Chuter and Paul Owen, a very strong pairing, Paul Owen another quality new player. It was great to see Diane Ruinet and Chris McCarthy both reach the finals this year too.
Paul Owen skipped his team of Dominic Singleton and David Mayne to victory over Mick Oakleys team of Judi Lion and Wendy Ghest in the final of the Ron Petty triples. A very entertaining match gaining a lot of support from the spectators !
Well done to everyone taking part in the finals and of course those who competed throughout the season but were sadly knocked out in earlier rounds. But there’s always next year remember!
